About
I moved from Brazil to the UK with my wife in 2005, but my involvement with theology and church life began long before that. I studied Theology at Seminário Teológico Batista Independente (STBI) in São Paulo and am also an International Chaplain.
In 2006, my wife and I, together with a couple of close friends, planted a church in Goole, Yorkshire, initially with a particular concern for helping immigrants become part of the local community. In 2013, I became the local pastor and served in that role for almost ten years.
In 2018, I went through a period of severe stress, anxiety and depression associated with burnout. What followed included an extensive process of psychotherapy and a very different way of looking at exhaustion, responsibility, emotional pressure and the limits we often ignore until they become impossible to ignore.
That experience eventually became the basis for Pare, Mundo! Eu Quero Descer, published in 2022, and later for its English edition, Stop, World! I Want to Get Off. Questions that emerged during that period have continued to shape other projects, including Beyond Tired and the book I am currently developing, I Can’t Switch Off.
In 2023, I founded Oasis House Church in Goole, where I currently serve as Senior Pastor. Today, the church serves both Portuguese-speaking and English-speaking communities.
My work in church leadership has also shaped the way I think about authority, institutions and the culture that can develop around religion. I have chosen to speak openly against the commercialisation of faith, manipulative leadership and the misuse of spiritual authority, while continuing to engage deeply with theology, apologetics and biblical interpretation. Some of that work is taking shape in projects such as Eschatology Without Systems and The Church Today: Reform or Rebirth?
Alongside pastoral ministry and writing, I also run a business and am developing mentoring as a more structured part of my work. Much of what I write comes from living with the same tensions I see in other people: responsibility, work, family, leadership and the difficulty of carrying several roles at once.
